Why intimate care wipes?

The function of the skin is to protect organs from external aggressions. The skin in intimate areas has special needs as it is more sensitive due to the unique composition of nerve cells.

The pH level of the skin in intimate areas is different than other parts of the body. A pH level determines acidity and alkalinity of a substance, and is a number from 0-14; the lower the number, the higher the acidity and vice versa.

Different parts of the body function properly at specific pH levels and protect us from illness and infection. In intimate areas, the pH differs from the vagina to the vulvovaginal area (area around the vagina). The normal healthy vagina is acidic and the pH is between 3.5 to 4.5 and that of vulvovaginal (area around vagina) is between 4.5-5.5. This pH level is ideal for the survival of good bacteria (lactobacilli). If this delicate balance is disturbed, harmful bacteria can multiply, leading to vaginal discomfort symptoms like foul odor, irritation, and vaginal discharge. Irritation, dryness, inflammation, infection, menstruation and hormonal changes may as well interfere with the skin balance.
